Description
Wisława Szymborska was mildly near sighted, but unlike most people her age, she did not need reading glasses. When she received the Nobel Prize, she used eyeglasses primarily when she was in public. The glasses allowed her, as she put it, to be less recognisable. In this way, she was subjected less to autograph seekers and admirers when she was out in town.
